Jeffrey Cooper is living a life most men would dream of. As a super successful designer, he has earned the respect of the system, which is keeping him from aging. As long as he continues to produce, the system provides him with the drugs and medical care that will keep him young, almost indefinitely.

But there is one thing that can cause a wrinkle in this perfect plan, and that’s Jeffrey’s own stress level. And when a new man enters his life, causing him to question the choices he’s made to reject his emotions and his past, his stress level zooms to a new high.

As Jeffrey comes to terms with what he’s given up in order to live by the system’s rules, outside forces cause him to see glimpses of his own mortality and the very real possibility of death, if he is ever cast aside. Is it worth losing all he’s worked for, or is he ready to embrace the side of him he rejected all those years ago?

Although at times Jeffrey seems lost in his own world of thoughts, and the story seems to be meandering, this slow unfolding of Jeffrey’s dilemma is central to the theme of this book. After a lifetime of following what he thought was the most important thing in his life, he needs time to sort out his new emotions. Jeffrey’s character feels almost devoid of personality in the beginning, but as the story progresses, we see a whole new side of him, as he starts to blossom.

Aging and death will claim us all some day. Carnal Sacraments reminds us that we can still make the most of the limited time we have on earth.
